About

Maren Michaelis is a Berlin-based photographer and designer.

Her photography has captured the essence of musicians, dancers, fetish performers, and a host of other identities dwelling in the underworld of art. Her lens weaves through all lanes and genres, ignoring the rules and expanding the boundaries of what is considered conventional.

Venture further and one could describe Michaelis' art as creative and poetic- energy with its own vision and conviction. It is all encompassing -atmospheric, expressive and dark. It is spontaneous, spur of the moment, breathing life and soul into the finished product. Unusual colors and superfluous accessories, alongside striking images with interesting subjects and a spontaneous set design or striking nature. Michaelis renders her imagery contemporary yet timeless, refusing to adhere to trends of the moment.

  • The Book Thief (with Geoffrey Rush, Emma Watson, directed by Brian Percival "Downtown Abbey")

Bio

Maren Michaelis was born at the Baltic Sea.

Studying Fashion Design in Berlin, Michaelis has worked for Burberry,  Joop!, and a slew of other companies spanning the globe, with stops in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco, living in Paris, France; Switzerland and Gold Coast, Australia. As a fashion stylist she's been working with well known photographers around the globe and became a photographer herself.

Maren became addicted to photography when friends introduced her to their world of cameras during an Istanbul vacation in 2003.

As a self-described music geek, Maren grew up on David Bowie, Black Sabbath, and The Smashing Pumpkins to name a few. Very young Michaelis was inspired by the fairytale landscapes of Norway, where she drove through every holiday with her parents and sister, while listening to Pink Floyd. Design, music and marine biology soon became her favorite subjects. Michaelis has worked as a content manager and editor for Otto Group and Zalando. She holds a Master’s degree in Marketing & Sales and a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design.

Currently she is a self-employed photographer and content manager, working with performers, big companies but also private persons.
